Submitted by an AEE SoCal Chapter Member. The New Aztec Center is a replacement student services building of the same name. The new building will house a fitness and recreation center, a lecture hall, a theatre and dining areas which include three cafés, a pub, a market and convenience store. The objectives included designing HVAC systems to consume 40% less energy than Title 24 standards, incorporating alternative energy via a photovoltaic system and helping SDSU achieve their goal of LEED Platinum. America's Largest HVAC Solar Thermal Plan

Submitted by AEE SoCal Chapter Member. Los Angeles Valley Community College project: 350 ton solar thermal driven air conditioning and space heating project, the largest in the United States. 1,500 ton campus peak cooling load / 350 tons absorption chiller capacity / 2 electric chillers and 6 ice storage units serve as auxiliary to the absorption chiller / 497 collector modules (7,952 tubes) / Insulated solar hot water storage tanks with total capacity of 72,000 gallons / 7-day storage cycle - 5-day discharge / Absorption chiller fired during peak hours / Modules staged over two buildings. Submitted by AEE SoCal Chapter Member. Objective of project was to upgrade central plant to meet new and improved standards. Value delivered: Improved facility comfort and productivity; more reliable building systems; expert project oversight; efficient removal of old equipment; non-disruptive operation; provision of more modern and advanced facilities automation; greater energy efficiency; better system control. Installation of the new, energy efficient systems garnered a $83,438 rebate from Southern California Edison (SCE). Case Study

Submitted by AEE SoCal Chapter Member. Objective was to replace cooling towers located on the 52nd level of a commercial high-rise building in downtown Los Angeles. Value Delivered: Turnkey delivery of a complex retrofit project; improved occupant comfort; reduced energy consumption and costs; simplified maintenance; non-disruptive operation; greater property marketability, higher return on owner’s investment.
